Librarians are ever facing challenges to ensure that the library and librarianship still relevant in the onslaught of o;d perception regarding the profession and new demand, technologies and the needs of the stakeholders. Librarians agree they have to face these challenges head on either following the trend, operating innovatively with minimal budget or even changing the job scope leveraging on their important skills and competencies..

This two-and-a-half day workshop focuses on firstly identifying what are the real issues facing librarians and librarianship today. Secondly, introducing Librarians to the concept and tools of Knowledge Management (KM). Thirdly, develop a high level implementable KM strategy for the profession, and library.

The design of this program will be participative and blended with the relevant tools to make learning natural and productive

Learning Outcomes

At the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to:

  • Define KM in the Library context
  • Determine how KM can contribute in achieving their department as well as organisational goals
  • Describe the challenges and enablers in implementing KM in the Organisation
  • Determine the leadership and management roles they need to assume to make KM a valuable organisational tool for their organisations
  • Develop a high-level plan for using KM in their departments as well as organisations Understand and effectively use the tools and methodologies introduced and used during the programme
